Trip to Transylvania

Transylvania County that is.

Today four of us Bread Loafers headed south to the DuPont State Forest to do some hiking around some waterfalls we had heard about. They were absolutely lovely. I never realized how many waterfalls North Carolina has, but it sure does seem to have a lot. It seems like every hike I hear about has some falls or another as a main attraction.

This is me in front of Hooker Falls which were the first falls of the day. There were lots of people on the trail--and many dogs, too. We happened to have a well-mannered golden retriever with us because Liz was doing some dog-sitting.

Then we hiked up to Triple Falls and ended the day at the High Falls. Here's a photo of that:

We ended just in time for the rains to come and cool everything down nicely.

My weirdest sighting of the day? A man was literally walking his pet ferret on a leash. So strange, and I had a hard time keeping myself from staring. He had two other ferrets in his backpack as well. I wanted to get a picture but I didn't have my camera on me, and then it began to rain, so you will just have to do your best to imagine it.
