On Saturday nights throughout the summer in Asheville thay have what they call "Shindig on the Green." This brings local bluegrass and old time music groups together to play as well some dancers to dance. It's all free and you take a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the festivities in the park. The music groups change every few numbers. There are also several other "jamming tents" where people can bring along their instruments and play with whoever.
Some of the highlights of my evening were the adult cloggers, one of whom was the man who just went crazy with his legs and arms as he clogged. There was also some good people watching and the night was gorgeous. The event was not nearly as fun as the Carter Fold, but it was still good to get out and get some Appalachian culture. Liz and I got up and participated in some impromptu square dancing, but I didn't get a picture of that so just imagine... ;)
