Sculpting our lives

Since I am back in Young Women again and have been for almost a year, it's always the endless quest to find new and interesting activities for our girls to do on Wednesday nights.

At the suggestion of my good friend Nilda, we tried an ice cream sculpture activity that's described on Sugardoodle. The girls were excited to come and find out what ice cream sculpturing would mean.

Basically, we first talked about how are lives are sculptured by the actions and things we put into them. So if we want to be the masterpiece our savior and creator hoped we would be, then we must be particular.

Then we broke out the ice cream and let their imaginations and creativity run wild. There was one big note to self for us regarding any future reincarnations of this activity--do it at a cooler time of year. Ice cream and summer sounds like the perfect combination, right? Not when you are trying to have ice cream to sculpt. The ice cream was melting like crazy, so it was hard for the girls to work with, and they could really do it for about 10 minutes before things were too soupy. I guess we live and learn.

In the end, we had a shoe, a purse, a flower, and a candy dish. The important thing was that the girls have fun, and they did. Plus, they got to eat as much as they wanted as they went and at the end, and they loved laughing and bonding as they worked. ;)
