The other night I had a very vivid dream that I was once again advising yearbook. Only I wasn't. I was actually on board to take over from Jill Evans (once again) and I was at CMR. It was the end of the year and distribution party time although no one had done the necessary planning and preparations to make the party happen, so everyone was scrambling to distribute 1300 books from the yearbook room. I was very stressed. This was not how it was supposed to go, and I felt responsible for it. It felt all too real.
I haven't advised yearbook in six years. But I have a few Facebook friends who are active advisors, so I have seen and heard plenty about yearbook distribution in the last few weeks. It's exciting and fun and makes me think about advising again one day.
There are things I miss about yearbook. I can honestly say I would consider going back to it later in my life when my family and kids would be in a position to allow for it. I don't think I would ever go back to newspaper--probably because my experiences at McClintock were so difficult that it left me with little desire. But yearbook has a special place in my heart, and if and when the day comes that I enter the classroom again, I'd be happy to try it out again if the circumstances were right.
I think about returning to the traditional classroom sometimes. I am happy to be home with my kids for now, but I wonder about when the day comes that the kids are all in school, and what will be the best fit for me. I think there will be options for different avenues to pursue. But for now I can dream and wonder, but be content with life where I am.
