I realize I am just concluding my first week of school for the year, and I have yet to blog a single word. But I assure you, I will this weekend.
But first...a true first for me. :) I got subpoenaed at school today! I'm actually listed as a victim and witness in a case I didn't even know was happening until today. Chances are I won't even need to show up to court on Tuesday because of the defendant's other legal matters, but eventually I may very well have to.
It all stems from the theft of my school computer last spring, which--most luckily--was quickly discovered in somebody's car and returned before any damage was done. I had left it on my desk in the journalism computer lab while I went to eat lunch, and the kid grabbed it and took it. And the district decided to press charges. So here I am with a subpoena in my hand today.
It's ironic to me that I am being called as a witness considering I didn't see a thing. The kid was no where in sight when I left the room, and certainly wasn't there when I came back and discovered it missing.
I must send big kudos to my assistant principal Bill who worked so quickly and skillfully to recover the computer. He has been called as a witness, too, incidentally.
Other than a couple of calls for jury duty, this will be only my third time in court. But this gets its own special place in my memory bank. Gotta love the American justice system!

I find the legal system intriguing. It's so interesting to see how it works and some people work it.
Good luck!
