Adventures in Babysitting

One of Asher's good friends spent four days this week with us during the day while his mom was working. He is part of our preschool carpool, and Corbin and Asher have become quite good friends. Corbin moved into our neighborhood in July, and his mom is playing single mom for the next year while her husband has deployed to Cuba with the Army. His mom works as a hygienist, and normally, Corbin goes to a couple of different babysitters during the week. But both babysitters went out of town, so we helped out.

It was a pretty easy week, but I was nervous that the two boys would get bored of each other and start fighting a lot, but they didn't. Yes! One thing I also know about Asher is that he likes to have time for himself, so I worried the long days of having a friend would be hard for him, but he did pretty well. He still had times he would have rather been playing the iPod alone, but we found a balance that got us through.

We played trains, built forts using the big freezer box (which got pretty much manhandled by the end of the week), went to the park (since thankfully the daytime temps have been below 100 degrees). It was an adventure.

Asher is definitely taking more of an interest in friends than he ever has before. He regularly asks if Corbin can come over after preschool, and more often wants a friend over to play. It's nice to see him growing in his social skills, and I am sure that preschool is helping a lot with that.
