I've been thinking a lot lately about fairy tales. Sleeping Beauty was always my favorite Disney princess growing up, and perhaps I have always secretly wished that some incredible Prince Charming would awaken me from a deep sleep and instantly transform my existence.
While Enoch hasn't literally awakened me from sleep, he has definitely changed the whole nature of my life in the matter of a few months. And while life is certainly not an endless string of fairy tale occurrences, I do feel infinitely blessed by the reality that is mine and to think that from here on out I will have someone to travel the road with, get lost with, traverse obstacles with, and hopefully find much joy with.
No, Enoch is not an idyllic Prince Charming, but I am no perfect Sleeping Beauty. But there are so many things to love about him...
how he gently puts aloe vera on my face and neck when I've been sunburned from my lack of sunscreen...
how he can fix the lock on my door with a little graphite...
how he cooks me delicious dinner after he's worked all day and I haven't...
how he is so disappointed when we have to cancel our birthday trip to Sedona because of unexpected and so annoying car trouble (whoever said fairy tales are real has never lived)...hopefully one of these weekends soon, we will get there...
how he loves me for all of my faults and weaknesses--or at least in spite of them...
I have found my Prince Charming and am grateful for fairy tales--in whatever form they come.
